Feingold. We have been watching this buck for the past two years and think he is a 5 year old. A really nice mature buck with a big frame body.

Captain Jack. Captain has been on the farm since I bought it. He is a very nice 5 or 6 year old buck. This year, very early on, he broke his right G2 but broken tines don’t deter us from harvesting a mature brute. I saw this buck December 5th while sitting out glassing the farm. He came out well before dark and fed into a soybean plot. We have many pictures of him late this year.  He’s seen here feeding in a soybean plot we call the candy cane.

Barkley. Yes, Barkley is back and bigger than ever. I kept this buck on the low down but he’s been on the farm once again this fall. He grew quite a bit this year and is now 5 years old. Like every other year, he shows up in early fall…stays until about early November…then we don’t see him again until later in the year. I’m sure he’s been there the whole time just doesn’t make it past a camera. He is a very nice deer and my son is hoping to get a look at him.

We started following “Captain” in 2012. He really grew from 2012 to 2013. Here, he is believed to be 5 years old on an interior plot. He showed himself on the farm last year throughout the season.

Going into the 2014 season, we planted almost the entire farm in soybeans. This 2 acre plot of beans was fenced off to make sure the deer would not over browse too early. In mid summer, we disced under a strip directly in front of our blind to make for easier shots and planted purple top turnips in the strip. This bean plot was also over-seeded in winter rye in late summer. Fast forward to Dec. 26th and we are sitting in a ground blind exactly where this photo was taken.

Last Saturday, the 20th, Forest, Anthony, and I pulled cameras and put every camera on a food plot. We set this camera up on plot cam mode. The time is off because I don’t update for daylight saving and the location is the “2 Acre” not the “V”. Starting the 20th, we have “Captain Jack” entering this food plot every day in the evening from the north east. Tonight….we had a north east wind!

Captain Jack. It’s just not every day that you get to hunt and pattern a 6 year old deer in late December but this year it all came together. Forest’s hunt lasted only an hour…but really his hunt started 3 years ago with many hundred hours invested before we ever stepped into the blind tonight. Great buck Forest!
